Perth (115.86E 31.96S), with its port of Fremantle, was the only sizeable city on the west coast of Australia. It had a major air base and there were significant industrial facilities in the city itself. The city was headquarters of Western Command and was garrrisoned by 13 Brigade when war broke out.
