Atsugi (139.37E
35.44N) is a town on the Kanto Plain west of Tokyo. There was an Army airfield here in 1941, which was the largest in Japan in 1945.
MacArthur chose the airfield as his temporary headquarters in the early days of the postwar occupation. An advance element of paratroops landed here on 28 August 1945 and were followed by a much larger force and MacArthur himself on 30 August.
