Baroda (Vadodara; 73.200E 22.300N) was founded in the 18th century under the Gaikwars, who were vassals of the Peshawar. It lies in a cotton beltand is a major producer of cotton textiles. There were major deposits of manganese in the surrounding areas (producing about 310,000 tons per year).
