Belawan (98.71E
3.78N) is the port of Medan and was both the largest port in Sumatra and an important oil port. It was protected by 10 3" guns
in December 1941.
The port was occupied by elements of Imperial Guards Division, which landed unopposed on 12 March 1942 and quickly moved inland.
