This gun was used in the more modern British light cruisers, although its use of bagged propellant and manual ramming and breech mechanisms was somewhat out of date for a weapon this size. It was envisioned as an antiaircraft weapon, but it proved impossible to give the necessary train rate and elevation. Unlike most British weapons, it was supplied with flashless powder when required.
