Gaya (84.995E
24.795N) is sacred to
both Hindus and Buddhists. There is a Vishnuite temple where
Hindus hold rituals for their dead, while nearby is the site where
Buddha received his enlightenment. The city had become an important rail junction by 1941, and
became an American rear
base in November 1942.
