This was actually a German cannon,
of which 400 were imported. They were all used on the Ki-61-I "Tony."
The gun used a recoil action and was fed from belts of 140 rounds.
It was the most successful German 20mm gun and was based closely on
the MG 151 15mm gun. It was available in both percussion and
electrically fired variants, but those delivered to Japan were
apparently of the electrically fired kind.
Armor penetration was about 0.47"
to 0.51" (12 to 13 mm) at 330 yards (300 meters) and 30 degrees.
