Kone (164.848E
21.065S) was a nickel mining
district located on
the island of New Caledonia.
Weathering of an ophiolite
formation concentrated its nickel to produce one of the richest nickel
ore deposits in the world.
Production was approximately 4400 tons of nickel per year during the war.
