Sapporo (141.379E
43.063N) is the most important port and city of Hokkaido. In 1941, there was
an important Army base and an airfield
here. The city was the headquarters of Northern
District Army and was part of the 7 Division
recruitment district.
Because of the city's location in the far north of
Japan, out of range of the B-29s, it suffered
relatively little damage during the war.
