Seria (114.388E 4.632N) was an oil field on the northwest coast of Borneo in western Brunei. Production was about 3.2 million barrels a year in 1941.
The Japanese landed elements of 35 Brigade (Kawaguchi Detachment) and 2 Yokosuka SNLF near Miri on 16 December 1941. By then the Dutch had already destroyed the oil field at Seria.
Seria was recaptured by elements of Australian 9 Division
on 22 July 1945. The Japanese failed to demolish the field and many of the wells could be put rapidly back in production.
