Chofu (139.56E
35.66N) was the location of a major Japanese Army airfield west of Tokyo. 17 Air Brigade was based here
with 44 Ki-27 "Nate" fighters, constituting the main air
defense of the Tokyo area when war broke out in the Pacific.
