Chuchou (Quzhou; 118.8686E 28.9594N) is located at the fall line of the Changshan River and became a transportation center as long as 1800 years ago. The surrounding region is heavily forested and a center for wood industries even today.
It is alleged that in October 1940 Unit 731 experimented with biological
warfare here, triggering a plague epidemic
that
killed 50,000 people. The specifics of this incident are
impossible to verify,
but it is certain that the Japanese experimented with germ warfare in China.
