Davis (121.738W
38.543N) was a
rail junction about 50 miles (80 km) northeast of Oakland
in the Central Valley of California. It was founded in 1868 as
Davisville, named after a local farmer, and incorporated in 1917 as
Davis. The University of Davis was founded here in 1908 as an
agricultural college, but has since become internationally recognized as
a university.
