Fremantle (115.735E
32.05S) was the port of the city
of Perth, on the west coast of Australia.
It
had a small shipyard and a naval
base that based a large number of U.S.
submarines throughout most of
the war. The base was gradually expanded until, by June 1945, the fuel storage amounted to 700,000 barrels of fuel oil and 206,000 barrels of diesel oil and munitions storage to 4000 tons. Yard facilities were originally limited to a marine railway with 850 tons lift, but ARD-10 arrived in 1943 and provided dry docking facilities for submarines.
