These guns were still in use on the Idzumos,
old armored cruisers being used as coastal defense ships. They were
used more extensively as coastal defense guns, both in the home islands
and at Wake and Tarawa.
The ship mounts could elevate to 30 degrees, while many of the coastal
guns could not elevate more than 24 degrees (though one mount at Tokyo Bay could apparently elevate to 60 degrees).
Some sources describe these as 40 caliber guns, but Campbell (1985) insists that they were 45 caliber guns.
