Kahena (127.77E
26.35N) was the principal airfield
of Okinawa. Located just 2000 yards (1800m) inland, it was reached by 1035 on 1 April 1945, the day of the American landings on Okinawa.
One of the American discoveries at the airfield was four Ohka suicide missiles in a concealed underground bunker.
The field was subsequently heavily developed by the Allies to support DOWNFALL.
