The Han (Gan) River is an important tributary of the Yangtze River. Arising in the mountains of southern Kiangsi, it flows through Nanchang to join the Yangtze near Kiukiang. The river was navigable to small oceangoing vessels below Nanchang and to river barges between Nanchang and Kanchow, making it a major transportation artery for Kiangsi.
