King Island (144.061E
40.050S) is located at the western end of Bass Strait between Tasmania and Victoria in southeastern Australia. The island is about 40 miles (64 km) long and 16 miles (26 km) wide with relatively low relief.
The island has significant deposits of tungsten on its southeast coast near
the village of Grassy (144.060E 40.056S). Production was about 470 tons per year during
the
Pacific War.
