Lindbergh Field (117.190W
32.734N) was a civilian airfield
located on the north shore of San
Diego Bay. It was originally developed by Consolidated
Aircraft for its San Diego plant. Early in the war, the Navy
constructed a heavy-duty runway for testing large bombers that
extended partway onto the field. The Air Force also took over
facilities at the field for a subbase.
Postwar, LIndbergh Field became the city's international
airport.
