Masinloc (119.92E
15.57N) is a small port on the
west Luzon,
north of Manila
Bay in the Philippines.
There are significant deposits of chromium
and manganese
in the nearby Zambales ophiolite
complex (120.09E
15.56N), a region of
former deep oceanic crust that was thrust to the surface by tectonic
action.
Manganese production was about 15,000 tons a year. The
chromite deposit here is the largest in the world and produced about
92,000 tons a year.
