Delhi (77.196E
28.576N) had been the capital of India
before the British
Raj, and regained this status
from Calcutta
in 1911. New Delhi was planned by Sir Edward Luytens and
became the Indian
capital in 1931. It was the headquarters of Indian Army. The population in 1941 was about 520,000 persons.
