Saharanpur (77.54E
29.97N) is a city and rail junction in the Ganges plain of India, located some 50 miles (80
km) north of New Delhi. British rule came to the
city in 1803. After an unsuccessful rebellion in 1857, the Muslim nationalist leaders
established the Daril Uloom School in 1867 to encourage peaceful
resistance to the Raj.
