Ominato (141.156E
41.258N) is the northernmost port
of Honshu
and was an important base for aircraft, light naval
forces, and
submarines patrolling Tsugaru
Straits between Honshu and Hokkaido. When war broke out, it was
headquarters of 5 Fleet.
