Digital relief map of Pearl River

The Pearl River (Zhu Jiang) is the great river of southern China, reaching its mouths near Canton and Hong Kong.  It is navigable to river steamers as far inland as Wuchow.

On 7 July 1939, following their occupation of Hong Kong, the Japanese closed the river.
