Phiquoc is an island off the south coast of what is now Cambodia. The Japanese built airfield here, at Duong Dong (103.97E 10.22N) and Kukan (Cua Can; 103.90E 10.30N), for short-range aircraft supporting the Malaya landings. When war broke out, 64 Air Regiment and 12 Air Brigade were based here with 35 Ki-43 "Oscar" and 146 Ki-27 "Nate". This was the first operational deployment of "Oscar" and represented the entire complement that had reached the front line by 7 December 1941.
