Republic Aviation Corporation was founded in 1939
as a reorganization of Seversky Aircraft, which had been brought to the
brink of bankruptcy by some poor management decisions. The new company
was more succesful, and designed and
produced the P-43 Lancer and P-47 Thunderbolt fighter
aircraft. Assembly plants were located at Kansas City, Missouri;
Evansville, Indiana; and Farmingdale, New York.
Production averaged 13 P-43 per month from the start of the war to August 1942, 257 P-47 per month from April 1943 to the end of the war at the Evansville plant, and 289 P-47 per month from November 1942 to the end of the war at the Farmingdale plant.
