Utsunomiya

Utsunomiya (139.89E 36.56N) was the location of Hyakurigahara Naval Air Station. This was the base for Hyakurigahara Air Group, a training group equipped with 108 K5Y "Willow" trainer aircraft. The city was also the location of two Nakajima Hikoki K.K. plants. Plant Number 14 produced aircraft engine components while Plant Number 4 produced the Ki-84 "Frank". 14 Division was recruited from the city and its surroundings.

The city was bombed with incendiaries by B-29s of 58 Bombardment Wing on the night of 12-13 July 1945.
