Yumen (97.08E 40.29N), located along the Silk Road in western China, was the only producing oil
field in China when war broke out in the Pacific. Because of wartime
conditions, foreign equipment was unavailable and development took
place entirely with local resources. Production reached 60,000 tons per
year by 1944.
