Chahar

Digital relief map of Chahar province, China

Chahar was a province in north China, comprising the eastern portion of Inner Mongolia. It was organized in 1928 but was occupied by the Japanese in 1937 under the future wartimer premier, Tojo Hideki.  Geographically, the province consisted of the easternmost Gobi Desert, north of the Great Wall, and a much smaller but more densely populated mountainous region south of the Great Wall that included the provincial capital of Kalgan.

The province was abolished in 1952.
