Akashika Tsutomu (a.k.a. Akashita Tsutomu, Akashika Richi, Akijika Tadashi) commanded 13 Independent Mixed Brigade in China when war broke out. He commanded 13 Division under 11 Army in western Hupei, China, in April 1943. He had a narrow escape on 7 June 1943, when elements of 6 Provisional Division raided his headquarters. His division later participated in the Ichi-Go offensive in 1944, fighting at Changsha and Kweilin.
