Bakersfield (119.057W
35.435N) is a city at the southern end of the Central Valley of
California. There was an Air Force training airfield
nearby, at Minter Field, which was formally established early in 1942 but had been in the works since June 1941. Over 11,000 aircrew were trained at the airfield.
