Charles "The Brain" was an artillerist and veteran of the Boer War and the Western Front during the First World War. Between the wars he played an important part in developing the theory of armored warfare.
Broad commanded Eastern
Command in India when war broke
out in the Pacific, but retired in mid-1942.
