William Crowther commanded 89 Indian Brigade during the second Arakan campaign. He took command of 17 Indian Division just as the war was winding down, and fought the last significant battle by a Western power in the Second World War at Sittang Bend, destroying 28 Army as it attempted to break out across the Sittang River and escape into Thailand.
