Fang Hsien-chueh (Fang Xianjue) commanded Kuomintang 10 Army during Ichi-go, where he led the stubborn defense of Hengyang, holding out for 47 days against a superior Japanese force.
He was one of the best-educated Kuomintang generals, having studed at
the Shanghai College of Law and Jurisprudence before graduating from
the Whampoa Military Academy. He also participated in the Second and Third Battles of Changsha.
