Fort Stotsenberg (120.580E
15.186N) was the main base for
the U.S. Cavalry in the Philippines. It was
strategically located in
the central Luzon plain, and
included enough flat
ground to provide a good site for an airfield,
which became Clark Field.
The base was established in 1906.
The base was headquarters of I Corps, Reserve Force, and 1 Provisional Tank Force when war broke out in the Pacific. Stores in 1941 included 100,000
rations and over 1000 tons of gasoline; most had to be abandoned during
the retreat to Bataan.
