Fort Worden (122.765W
48.140N) was established in 1897 at Port Townsend, overlooking the main entrance to Puget Sound from the southwest. When war broke out, the fortress had four 12" guns in barbettes or disappearing mounts, eight 12" mortars, two 10"guns in disappearing mounts, four 6" guns and four 3" guns manned by 14

defense unit.
Together with Fort Flagler and Fort Casey, Fort Worden was said to make up a "Triangle of Fire" guarding the entrance to Puget Sound.
The fortress was closed in 1953.
