Fort de Kock (Bukittinggi; 100.369E
0.306S) was a Dutch
military post in Sumatra, located
on a plateau whose elevation provided some relief from the sweltering
heat of the lowlands. At the time war broke out in the Pacific, the
post was garrisoned by about a battalion
of troops.
Fort de Kock became the headquarters of 25 Army after the Japanese occupied Sumatra in 1942.
