The Kawasaki Ha-140
was a twelve-cylinder inverted "V"
engine with bore of 154mm (6.06 inches) and stroke of 4.06 inches
(103mm) for a nominal power rating of 1450 horsepower (1081 kW). It was
based on the
German DB 605 engine. The engine
was
used on the Ki-61 "Tony", but
proved so unreliable (having tight tolerances that stretched the
capacity of Japanese manufacturing) that the "Tony" was redesigned to
use a radial engine, the Ki-100.
