This weapon was used on Akagi and the Furutakas as well as some escort vessels. Relatively few were produced, and the gun suffered from an inappropriate choice of powder grain, leading to unburned grains at the muzzle, which reduced accuracy. The propellant problem was resolved late in the war.

A number were used for coastal defense, as shown in the photograph above.
