Koga was given command of 55 Division under 15 Army in Burma in late 1942. He marched his division 600 miles to the Arakan, arriving in late March 1943, where it helped repel the first British offensive against Akyab. He was recalled in November 1943 and took command of 81 Division in Utsunomiya, Japan, from its activation in April 1944.
