Kowloon (114.167E
22.301N) was the chief city and port
of the mainland portion of Hong Kong.
It was also the location of the airfield,
Kai Tak, which was defended by a paltry four antiaircraft machine guns.
At the time war broke out, the area was garrisoned by Kowloon Brigade, consisting of a battalion each of 2 Royal Scots, 7 Rajput, and 14 Punjab Regiments. Kai Tak based 4 Vildebeeste and 13 civilian DC-2 airliners.
The city was evacuated on the night of 12/13 December 1941 and remained under Japanese control until the final Japanese surrender.
