Lampang (99.48E
18.29N) is a road
junction in northern Thailand.
In 1942 the road from here across the Shan States of Burma to Meiktila was the only
established route from Thailand to Burma, and the British expected the Japanese to come this way.
Instead, the Japanese moved across country near Moulmein along a route scouted by agents under cover as foresters prior to war.
