Lomax took temporary command of 14 Indian Division during the first Arakan campaign. In his memoirs, Slim praised Lomax for his steadiness and competence in reorganizing this division, which had been shattered under its previous commander when the Japanese launched a devastating counterattack.
Lomax subsequently commanded 26
Indian Division during the second Arakan campaign, where his division was part of the hammer that smashed 55 Division against the anvil of 7
Indian
Division.
