Magwe (94.97E 20.15N) was the location of a hurriedly constructed RAF bomber strip in central Burma. Contemporary accounts describe it as a real hole, with the barest possible facilities. However, the loss of Mingaladon left the British with no other airfield near the battle zone.
The airfield was heavily raided on 21 March 1942, catching most of its aircraft on the ground and all but eliminating Allied air power in Burma.
The town was recaptured on 18
April 1945 by elements of XXXIII
Corps.
