Numazu (138.871E 35.104N) is a town on Suruga Wan (Bay) southwest of Tokyo. There was an army barracks here in 1941. The Shimizu aluminum plant was also located here.
The Shimizu plant was bombarded by a destroyer force on the night
of 30 July 1945. Some 1100 5" (127mm) shells were fired at the
plant and the nearby railroad. Damage was irrelevant: The plant
had already been practically shut down for lack of raw materials.
