Pocatello (112.47W
42.88N) is the location of a rail junction in southeast
Idaho. It was selected on 1 April 1942 for as the site for a naval
ordnance plant, primarily to serve as a gun relining shop for the
West Coast naval bases. The plant was comissioned on 2 August 1943
and eventually amounted on 50 buildings on a 211-acre (85 hectare)
site. Facilities included two furnace pits and a 250-ton crane,
adequate for any naval
rifle in use with the fleet.
