Pomalaa (121.585E 4.201S) is located in southeastern Celebes Island in the Netherlands East Indies. Celebes was the only important source of nickel for Japan during the Pacific War. The lateritic nickel deposits here were brought into production by the Japanese in 1942 and supplied about 20,000 tons per year thereafter.
