Sato commanded 37 Independent Mixed Brigade
in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from its
activation in February 1944. He was hanged for ordering the execution
of 152 civilians, including women and children, on 13 August 1945. The
civilians were executed for attempting to escape from the Andaman
Islands by boat.
