Sendai (140.910E 38.251N) is a port and communications center on the east coast of Honshu north of Tokyo. It was the location of a major Japanese Army base and of Masuda Army Air Force Base. The city was the location of one of the military preparatory schools for Army officers and of a noncommissioned officers' school, and 2 Division was recruited from the area.
The city was the launching point for balloon bombs.
