Serembang (Seremban; 101.95E
2.71N) was the location of a rail junction in Malaya. The town was established as Sungai Ujon following the discovery of tin in Malaya in the 1870s and, for a time, was an important port on the Linggi River.
The town allegedly got its modern name from a pastime of Chinese
immigrants, "sarimban", which involved throwing a pebble in the air and
attempting to catch it on the back of one's palm.
